🧭 Help: New Studies Page

Welcome! This page lets you search for new studies and add them to your project.

You can search normally using your approved search terms, or use the Direct Lookup box (black border) to pull in one specific paper by exact title, PMID, or DOI.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Select your Project at the very top of the page.
  2. Choose a Search Term from the dropdown. These are the official search terms your project admin has approved.
  3. Choose an API Source

Europe PMC: Large free full-text biomedical literature
bioRxiv: Biology preprints (not yet peer-reviewed) β€” search via Europe PMC, bioRxiv only
OpenAlex: Broad open catalog of scholarly publications across all fields
PLOS: Open-access scientific journals with high-quality peer-reviewed research
PubMed: Largest biomedical research database β€” contains about 80% of studies
YouTube: Scientific talks, lectures, and patient education videos
  4. Filters (Journal, Author, Years)
    Journal: Enter Journal name (optional)
Author: Enter any part of author name (optional)
Years: Enter up to 10 years per search. Current year will be the default if no year is selected.
  5. Click the big Search button to send your request to the chosen database and load the results below.
  6. Review Results – check the boxes on the right side of each study. If you like the study, click Add to Queue. If you don't like the study, click Delete. And then click Submit Selected Actions button at the bottom. If you want to see the same studies each time you search different API sources in the New Studies page, then don't Add to Queue or Delete them. The purpose of applying Add to Queue or Delete to a study is so that you don't have to see a study you've already reviewed. You'll only see new studies. Your curated studies are in the Review Studies page where you can see the summaries (that you can actually understand with a high school education!) and keywords created by Grok and if you like them, you can Approve them and share them with the public in the Grok Studies page.
  7. Quick Select Buttons – use "Select All to Add" or "Select All to Delete" at the top of the Actions column to work faster.
  8. Submit Your Choices – when finished, click the big blue Submit Selected Actions button at the bottom of the page.

Direct Lookup – Fetch One Specific Study

Located in the black-bordered box below the normal search controls (labeled Direct Lookup). This feature lets you pull in one exact paper without using your normal search terms or the top filters.

Important notes about Direct Lookup:

Known Limitation: YouTube Years

YouTube searches are limited to one year at a time.

When the source is YouTube, pick a single year in the Years filter. Multi-year YouTube searches are not supported the way scientific sources (PubMed, Europe PMC, OpenAlex, PLOS) are.

Workaround: Search one year at a time for YouTube, or use PubMed / Europe PMC / OpenAlex / PLOS when you need several years in one search.
